My study animals

  • I have a very special relationship with the desert ant Cataglyphis fortis. This might have to do with the fact that I owe these fascinating navigators my PhD.
  •

  • In 2000/2001, I investigated the vocal behaviour of Crimsonbreasted Shrikes (Laniarius atrococcineus) in South Africa.
  •

  • In 1998, I studied a group of wild Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata yakui) on Yakushima Island, south of Kyushu. This work was part of my Masters thesis.
  •

  • My most recent study animal was the fiddler crab Uca vomeris (left: female, right: male).
